JOB POSTING: UI/UX DESIGNER (Independent Contractor Position)

 September 10th, 2019

Narrative Nation, Inc, a black woman-owned and led New York City based non-profit focused on addressing racial disparities in maternal and infant health with innovative media and technology initiatives, is hiring a contractor for its signature project Irth.  Irth, as in Birth but we dropped the “B” for bias, is a digital platform to identify and address bias in maternity healthcare settings and to build a patient-centered accountability mechanism for equitable and respectful care.

Narrative Nation is looking for a UI/UX designer for the Irth app who is passionate about our mission of dismantling bias and fighting for health equity to join our team. In this project-based role, you will work with the team to generate design concepts based on foundational user research, develop workflows and wireframes, respond to user feedback, and create pixel-perfect mockups that can be implemented by our developers. As this is a small team, we expect the UI/UX designer to work directly with leadership to influence the product direction. An ideal candidate brings expertise across the fields of information architecture, interaction design, and visual design. A strong portfolio of successful UI/UX and other design projects is essential.

We are looking for a self-starter who works well independently and is available immediately for a projected three to six-month project. This is a grant-funded role for an independent contractor. Finalist candidates will be invited to submit a SOW and budget proposal.

Irth’s mission is to equalize the birth experiences of black women and all marginalized groups in the United States and fight implicit bias in healthcare, which can result in poor treatment of people due to their race, ethnicity, cultural background, sexual orientation, gender, or language. Therefore, women of color are strongly encouraged to apply. To learn more about the Irth app project visit
